MAS Freedom sends ten point
 legislative agenda to Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, DC - Jan. 8, 2006 - In response to the new balance of power in the 110th Congress and the new legislative agenda put forward by the Democratic Party, the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation forwarded our MAS Freedom Ten Point Legislative Agenda to the 110th Congress.

The Ten Point Agenda was forwarded to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-OH); Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV); Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Asian Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and to the chairs and ranking members of congressional committees.

Listed below is the MAS Freedom Ten Point Legislative Agenda, which supports the following initiatives:

ཉ           Sensible budget priorities that address human needs in our nation.

ཉ           Targeted funding for pre-k to 12th grade public education and affordable college education for America's youth.

ཉ           Curtailing the rapid escalation of military spending.

ཉ           An end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

ཉ           No additional funding for the escalation of U.S. military forces in Iraq.

ཉ           Comprehensive immigration reform, with safeguards for undocumented workers in the United States and a fair and equitable process for gaining legal status.

ཉ           Initiating congressional hearings on the following issues: racial and religious profiling on U.S. highways and at our airports and borders; U.S. involvement in torture rendition, excessive delays in the process of permanent residence and citizenship approval for Muslims, Arab, and South Asian applicants, and the issue of U.S. weapons used against civilian populations in the Middle East in violation of the Arms Export Control Act.

ཉ           Congressional review of the Department of Homeland Security Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

ཉ           A Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act which addresses excessive use of force and renders responsible law enforcement accountability.

ཉ           Comprehensive health care reform that provides relief to the 48 million U.S. citizens and residents who lack health insurance.
